City issues request for proposals to demolish 320 N. Main

At Tuesday’s meeting, the City Commission took the next step toward demolition of the old Dillon’s building at 320 N. Main. The Commission approved issuing a request for proposals to demolish the building, as the City nears completion of negotiations with BNSF for cleanup of contaminated soil at the site.

KDOT to close 36th Street bridge

The Kansas Department of Transportation will close the 36th Street bridge and northbound I-135 underneath it on Tuesday, July 8 and Wednesday, July 9 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Northbound I-135 traffic will be directed up the ramp and back down to I-135.

City of Newton engineer in need of stem cell donor

City of Newton staff are coming together to support long-time co-worker Mike Headings, who was diagnosed earlier this year with a rare form of leukemia. City staff have partnered with the organization NMDP to plan two stem cell donor drives.
