July 4 holiday to alter trash pickup schedule

Newton City offices will be closed Friday, July 4 for Independence Day, which will also alter the trash pickup schedule. Trash normally picked up on Thursday will be picked up Wednesday, July 2. Trash normally picked up on Friday will be picked up Thursday, July 3. Monday and Tuesday routes will run as usual.

Newton opts out of year-round fireworks sales

At Tuesday’s meeting, the City Commission opted not to allow permanent year-round fireworks sales in Newton, despite a recent change to state law.

Commission begins discussion of hotel recruitment

GAF breaks ground in Kansas Logistics Park
