City issues request for proposals to demolish 320 N. Main

At Tuesday’s meeting, the City Commission took the next step toward demolition of the old Dillon’s building at 320 N. Main. The Commission approved issuing a request for proposals to demolish the building, as the City nears completion of negotiations with BNSF for cleanup of contaminated soil at the site.

KDOT to close 36th Street bridge

The Kansas Department of Transportation will close the 36th Street bridge and northbound I-135 underneath it on Tuesday, July 8 and Wednesday, July 9 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Northbound I-135 traffic will be directed up the ramp and back down to I-135.

Work to begin on East 12th Street

Traffic will be restricted to eastbound only on East 12th Street between Main and Pine beginning Monday, June 9. The mill and overlay project is expected to be complete by Aug. 15, weather permitting.

Newton cemeteries plan cleanup

Road work planned in southeast Newton

The City’s annual mill and overlay street maintenance will begin next week with several streets in southeast Newton. The contractor, Kansas Paving, will begin milling off asphalt on Monday, June 2, weather permitting, followed by repaving.
