Road work planned in southeast Newton

The City’s annual mill and overlay street maintenance will begin next week.

The contractor, Kansas Paving, will begin milling off asphalt on Monday, June 2, weather permitting, on the following streets:

• South Kansas Avenue (Washington Road to Southeast 10th, Southeast Sixth to Southeast Fifth, and Southeast Fourth to Myrtle)
• South Pine Street (Southeast 14th to Southeast 13th, Cedar Drive to Indian Lane, Mead to Southeast Sixth, Southeast Fifth to Southeast Fourth, and Southeast Third to East First)
• Southeast Sixth Street (Spencer to South Payton)
• Southeast Third/South Payton (Spencer to Southeast Sixth)

The contractor will deliver notices to adjacent property owners 48-72 hours in advance. Vehicles will not be allowed to park in the street during construction, and residents must make sure to have trash carts out at the curb before 7 a.m. on their collection day.

Weather permitting, the work should be complete by Aug. 1.
