Our Mission
The Newton Fire/EMS Department is dedicated to a constant pursuit of excellence in the provision of quality fire, rescue, medical, and other individualized services to those in need.
Our History
The Newton Fire/EMS Department officially started service in January 1997. This department was the result of the merger of the Newton Fire Department and the Newton Ambulance Department. The Fire Department had completed 100 years as a paid department and was recognized as an excellent department. The Ambulance Department had completed 27 years as a separate EMS service, and also had a fine reputation -- including being the first EMS service in the state to provide paramedic level care. Members of both departments were cross-trained and provided support to each other at Fire and EMS scenes for many years; therefore, by order of the City Commission the departments were united. Newton Fire/EMS has continued to honor the traditions of our past, yet move forward into the future with a commitment to strive for excellence in both disciplines.
