The Rundown is prepared by the City of Newton Communications Office to summarize the City Commission action and does not represent official Commission minutes.

7 p.m. Feb. 10, 2026, Newton City Commission meeting

At Tuesday’s meeting, the City Commission tabled an ordinance setting this year’s fireworks sales and discharge dates, delaying the decision for at least two more weeks.

At the Jan. 27 meeting, the Commission had approved a plan for four days of sales and discharge, July 1-4, which would be carried forward in future years. This was a change in direction from the previous meeting on Jan. 13, when the Commission had moved forward a plan for eight days of sales and discharge, June 27-July 4.

The Commission tabled the item to make sure Commissioners are all on the same page and making a thoughtful decision with all the same information.

The Commission plans to consider the ordinance again at the Feb. 27 meeting.

In other action, the City Commission:

  1. Amended fines and penalties for code enforcement cases to make them consistent for businesses and individuals.
  2. Received the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Report.
  3. Received the Newton Area Senior Center Annual Report.
