Reconstruction of South Spencer Road has resumed after being put on hold last summer.
The contractor, Kansas Paving, has begun phase 2 of the reconstruction project: the section between Southeast Third and Southeast 14th Connector.
The road is open to southbound traffic only. A detour of northbound traffic has been established on Hillside Road one mile to the east.
The first phase of the Spencer project, from East First to just south of Southeast Third Street, was completed last year. Construction was then paused because the unusually rainy summer made the unpaved Hillside detour route muddy and impassable. Paving of Hillside has since been completed.
Phase 2 is expected to take 8-12 weeks to complete, weather permitting. The project will then move on to the final section between Southeast 14th Connector and Southeast 14th Street.
