City seeks volunteers for advisory boards

The City of Newton is accepting applications to serve on three volunteer advisory boards with open positions. These boards and commissions provide a platform for residents to voice their opinions and offer expert advice on various issues.

Open positions are available on the following boards:

  • Planning/Historic Preservation Commission – advises the City Commission on issues relating to zoning, subdivision plats, sign regulations and other matters affecting development, and reviews projects affecting historic properties.
  • Newton Housing Authority – provides the policymaking for management of the city’s units of public housing, plus Section 8 federally subsidized, privately owned housing.
  • Substance Abuse Board – administers the liquor tax revenue received from the State to fund prevention and treatment programs for drug and alcohol abuse.
