Fire Marshal Gary Crittenden

Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, Newton Fire/EMS Inspections/Investigations are responsible for enforcing Fire and Life Safety Codes and determining the origin and cause of fire-related events. Inspections/Investigations averages 617 Fire and Life Safety Inspections on buildings per year. In addition, the section averages 20 fire or arson investigations per year.

Investigators are considered either Level I or Level II Investigators. Level I Investigators are trained to determine the origin and cause at a fire-related incident. Level II Investigators also determine origin and cause but also receive additional training in law enforcement and possess the power to arrest, if necessary. Each investigator has received state certification in fire investigations from the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office.
