The Newton/North Newton Historic Preservation Commission meets at 6:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Newton City Hall, 201 E. 6th Street, Newton, in the third floor City Commission Chambers. 

The Commission is composed of nine members, with six appointed by the Mayor of Newton and three appointed by the Mayor of North Newton. All members are appointed to three-year terms. Terms run from September 1st to Aug. 31st. 

If you own an historic property in Newton and/or are located in one of the three historic districts, please note that review of improvements, remodels, additions, roofs, porches, etc to your home or building require review by the Preservation Commission.  To apply for review, please complete the Certificate of Appropriateness Application and return to the office of Engineering & Planning at City Hall - or email the completed form to rsellers@newtonkansas.com.
