This permit program is designed to assist businesses, agencies, and individuals wishing to use public sidewalks in Downtown Newton. The goal is to maintain high standards of accessibility and safety while promoting attractive, functional sidewalk usage and promoting Downtown Newton as an attractive mixed-use environment.
This program makes tax rebates available for home or business property improvements. If you are building a new structure or making significant improvements to residential, commercial or industrial property, your project may be eligible for the Neighborhood Revitalization Program.
The Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) is a way to receive up to a 10-year rebate on the increased taxes paid as a result of new construction or rehabilitation projects. Eligible commercial and residential properties could receive up to a 100 percent rebate.
Applications can be obtained from the Planning Department, on the third floor of City Hall. For more information or to see if your property qualifies, visit or call the Planning Department at 316-284-6001.
The Downtown Revolving Loan Program provides low-interest loans to qualifying downtown businesses.
The Historic Preservation Planner offers guidance, education, and information about preservation incentives for historic structures. The Planner also provides administrative support for the Newton/North Newton Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
