OFFICE OF RISK MANAGEMENT
The Mission:
The Risk Management Office provides a systematic identification of loss exposures, an analysis of the exposures in terms of frequency and severity probabilities, an application of sound risk control and safety procedures, and the financing of risks consistent with the City’s financial resources.
The Risk Management Office includes a variety of operations: workers compensation, employee safety, auto liability, and all property and casualty programs. The Risk Manager oversees these operations and handles the negotiation and acquisition of insurance.
The City of Newton's workers compensation program is insured through the KMIT Pool. Injured City of Newton employees should contact their immediate supervisor and 911 Emergency Services in case of life/limb threatening injuries. Supervisors should contact the Risk Management Office for instructions for non critical injuries. Claims are filed through our third party administrator, Insurance Management Associates, Wichita, KS. Employees may contact the Risk Management Office at (316) 284-6016 with any questions regarding their claim.
Questions regarding Kansas Workers Compensation Laws and Rules can be asked of the Kansas Division of Workers Compensation via the internet. The telephone number for the Ombudsman/Claimant Advisory is 1-800-332-0353.
The City of Newton's Auto Liability and Casualty (property damage) insurance programs are administered through the Risk Management Office. Builder's Risk and Installation Floater policies for City managed construction projects are managed through this office. Other insurance programs managed by the Risk Management office include; Airport Hanger Keepers, Underground Storage Tanks, Inland Marine, Officers and Directors Liability, Medical Malpractice, Fidelity, and various bonds for City Officers.
If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident with the City of Newton, or wish to make a claim against the City for other damages, you will need to contact Dennis Quiring at (316) 284-6016.
The Risk Management Office also manages claims for sewer backups, utility breaks and injuries on City property.
The Risk Management Office oversees the safety compliance efforts of all City Departments. Departments with Training Officers retain their own safety/compliance records and the Utility Departments forward their safety and compliance records to the Risk Management Office.
