Kansas Gas Service has donated pipe and labor to install underground gas lines for use in training props at the Newton Fire/EMS training grounds, 800 S.W. 14th. This will enable the fire/EMS department to conduct training without having to move the above-ground pipe from prop to prop.
Piping will be connected to the burn building and four propane burn props as well as a feeder line from the main propane tank to the control station. Kansas Gas employees also will install a line from the tank to the storage building for future use for heating.Kansas Gas Service donated these pipes and labor to connect gas lines to props at the training grounds. Tanker donations from Newell Oil Company and BNSF are in the background.
“It is a tremendous addition to the training grounds and will make our training evolutions much safer to operate,” Deputy Chief Dean Davis said. On Oct. 16, Newton fire/EMS will host a Basic Firemanship Day to train area firefighters on these props and others at the training grounds.
The donated piping joins a semi-transport tank trailer and railroad tank car, donated by Newell Oil Company and BNSF, respectively, at the training grounds.
