8th & Oak to close for sewer project
The intersection of East Eighth and Oak Streets will be closed beginning this afternoon or Wednesday for a sanitary sewer line upsizing project.
The contractor, Nowak Construction, began reaming out the sewer line that runs down the middle of Eighth Street on July 8, but progress has been slow. The contractor has encountered more ductile iron pipe casing and concrete collars on pipes than anyone knew existed.
Nowak will open up the pavement in the Eighth and Oak intersection to remove and replace sewer line around the manholes that cannot be achieved with the reaming tools. This work will take several days and then temporary pavement will be put in place as the contractor moves west down Eighth Street.
Both sides of Eighth Street east of Oak will have no parking in the next few days, as the contractor will be using that space for laying out pipe.
