8th & Pine to close for sewer project
The intersection of East Eighth and Pine Streets will be closed beginning Monday, July 8 as a sanitary sewer line upsizing project begins.
The contractor, Nowak Construction, is reaming out and enlarging the sewer line that runs down the middle of Eighth Street.
The north side of Eighth Street from Pine to Main will have no parking for at least two weeks. Both east- and westbound traffic on Eighth will use the south side during that period. The parking area will be used for laying out pipe and equipment.
The contractor will start at Pine and move gradually west. Main Street should remain open throughout the project, but other cross streets will be closed as construction moves west.
A small section of the bike path just west of Ash Street will be closed as construction nears Sand Creek, where a larger sewer line will be placed under the creek.
The project is expected to be complete by the first of September, weather permitting.
Enlarging the sewer line, which is currently at capacity, will improve flows in the area and allow for additional in-fill development in central Newton.
